After the terrible passing of star Chadwick Boseman, Marvel Studios would be well within their rights to draw a line under the franchise completely, and permit T’Challa’s first standalone getaway to live on as a permanent monument to the tradition of the male under the mask. With over $1.3 billion at the box office, an Academy Award election for Best Image and a credibility as a landmark of both pop culture and representation in smash hit movie theater, it would certainly be a fitting homage.
The next few months will see lots of conversations going on behind the scenes between Kevin Feige, director Ryan Coogler and the returning cast and crew, with the follow up initially arranged to start shooting next March in order to meet the May 2022 release date. In truth, Boseman was so figured out to beat the disease that took his life that he was set to start training for his return in a matter of weeks.
