On that fateful Saturday early morning in 2012, our paths crossed for the first time at the Government Department of the University of Ghana, Legon. I was at the department to take part in the clean-up exercise as part of the yearly POSSA week events and you were there to cover the event for Radio Univers.
This was in the second Semester of Level 100 for both of us. After the exercise, we exchanged pleasantries and struck discussion which offered key insights. I was really excited to realize the imagine leaving the University with not just a degree but with sharpened skills in Broadcast Journalism and the opportunity to meet a fellow fresher was the right avenue to ask all the questions I had on my curious mind. The guidance you offered that day, showed important in the choice to request an area at Univers and when I succeeded in my quote, it was completely excellent working with you at the renowned JQB newsroom of Univers 105.7 FM. I learnt a lot from your sense of commitment, precision and eager eye for detail.
After Univers, we got the opportunity to work as NSS workers at Citi 97.3 FM. We walked into the reception at No. 11 Dr. Morton Loop on 3rd August, 2015 with Fa Rida and Kwame Botchway prepared to discover, construct capability and continue with the solid custom of quality which had actually attracted us to the Citi brand. In no time, being the genuine gem you were, you discovered your feet first with the then Online Department prior to moving to the ‘much-coveted’ Service Desk. We were not just work friends. Pius was one of the few individuals; I easily talked about strategies and problems associated with profession progress with. We cut our teeth on the weekend shift with Raymond Acquah and Franklin Badu Jnr.
There are a lot of memories to share. Your deep issue, fellow sensation and insistence on excellence always motivated me throughout the time we interacted. Papa Kyi– as I passionately called him– would constantly call or send a message, when there was a concern with a script or you pronounced a word without the ideal stress, tone or inflexion. That’s how deeply he cared about journalism, requirements and excellence. Pius spared no effort to make sure that the job at hand was provided with all the ‘T’s crossed and ‘I’s dotted.
Still fresh in my memory are the acclaims you received for providing the cutting-edge research study for the excellent concerns, our mutual icon and manager, Bernard Avle asked at one of the Governmental encounters with the media. Our ever thoughtful Senior from Univers did not mince words in according due regard to the top-notch work you did. We all indulged in the glory-that was another point of fantastic motivation for me and all our contemporaries in the newsroom but that was Pius– a trail sports jacket who put his soul into every piece he worked on for radio, online and later tv.
The last time we satisfied, hardly 2 weeks ago, I had hope that the course of healing will come cycle. I had unsurmountable faith that we would work together once again and satisfy imagine further education, household and unchecked success in our selected field, however the grim reaper’s scythe struck when we least anticipated. Now I remain confused and bemused, do I wish you a happy birthday on this wedding or state Rest In Peace? I am comforted that you are in a better location.
