Previous US vice president Joe Biden has extreme words for the computer game and tech industries.

In an interview with the New York Times, the presidential confident called game developers he met throughout his time at the White House “creeps,” “exemplary,” and “big-headed,” describing his personal experiences with high-ranking executives in Silicon Valley.

“And you may recall, the criticism I got for conference with the leaders in Silicon Valley, when I was trying to work out an arrangement dealing with them protecting copyright for artists in the United States of America,” stated Biden. “And at one point, among the little creeps sitting around that table, who was a multi— near to a billionaire– who told me he was an artist since he was able to create games to teach you how to eliminate individuals, you know the—-“

“Like computer game,” provides the New York Times job interviewer. Biden has actually formerly required certain legal restrictions to be imposed on violent video games, recommending in 2013 that there is no legal objective to enforcing a tax on violent media. He has also stated that while no definitive evidence exists connecting violent video games and media with acts of real violence, the public shouldn’t hesitate of “realities” which might come from research study on the matter.

Biden continues:

“Yeah, computer game. And I was lectured by one of the senior leaders there that by saying if I firmly insisted on what Leahy ‘d put together and we were, I thought we were going to totally support, that they would explode the network, figuratively speaking. Have everyone contact. They get out and head out and call the switchboard, just blow it up.

“And then one of these righteous people stated to me that, you know, “We are the financial engine of America. We are the ones.” And thankfully I had actually done a little research prior to I went and I said, you know, I find it fascinating. As I included up the seven attires, everyone’s there however Microsoft. I stated, you have less individuals on your payroll than all the losses that General Motors just dealt with in the last quarter, of staff members. So don’t lecture me about how you’ve developed all this work.

“The point is, there’s an arrogance about it, a frustrating arrogance that we are, we are the ones. We can do what we wish to do. I disagree.”

The exemption that Biden is describing is referred to as § 230 of the Communications Decency Act. Loosely speaking, the aim of this policy is to help platform owners prevent being blamed for the content produced by its users. Or, in legalese: “No provider or user of an interactive computer service will be dealt with as the publisher or speaker of any info supplied by another info material service provider.”

Biden isn’t simply calling for reforms of the arrangement, he is looking for to abolish it entirely. “The truth is, in every other transformation that we’ve had technically, it’s taken somewhere between six years and a generation for a federal government to come in and level the playing field once again,” Biden discusses. “Suddenly, keep in mind the Luddites smashing the equipment in the Midlands? That was their answer when the culture was altering. Very same thing with tv. Same thing prior to that with radio. Same thing, but this is massive. And it’s a responsibility of government to make sure it is not mistreated. Not abused. Therefore this is one of those areas where I believe it’s being abused. “
